I've asked lots of people. Googled "quicksand on the Platte". Read lots of books and I'm getting mixed opinions here. The old timey books say the Pioneers ran into quicksand from time to time crossing the Platte River in Nebraska.
Locals say they have never heard of quicksand on the Platte. Some even suggested that the past high water floods and waterspouts washed it all out--down the river to the Gulf or the Missouri.
Gues my protagonists will have to find it by accident. I'm over 100,000 words now and closing in on the final tremendous chapter of my new novel, AS ALL MY FATHERS WERE.
My last book, THE CUT OF PRIDE, was reviewed in F Magazine and I hereby attach it for those of you who haven't read it yet. You can still get first edition inscribed copies from me--I have a few left.
