The Youngest Reader

An author always wonders what age group his works may excite. My writing is not complicated--I'm a story teller--and the words I use to tell the story are not long and obtuse. He wanted my book and asked how much it cost? I said $20. He pulled out a handful of change, laughed and said he guessed that wasn't enough.

While I was thinking how to get him the book his mother come over, asked me to sign it to him as "her little reader," and paid for it. He is eight years old and heading into third grade next year. I sold 16 books at Fireside Books in Palmer, Alaska  yesterday, but none made me feel as happy as that one. I hope he writes a review.
