I blustered my way through security--the TSA agents having never seen a one-day pass before--and set up my novels on a table right in the scuttleway of the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport in front of MOSQUITO BOOKS, a small airport bookstore near the C2 gate leading in and out of Alaska.
Inspecting my competition--all the other books on the shelves--I saw three copies of Hillary Clinton's latest book. I made a vow to sell more than she did that day.
Settled in with coffee, water, Ensure and a cushion for the chair, I began my chatter offering fine contemporary/literary fiction novels to the reading public. I'm always looking for a needle in a haystack because fiction is only 20% of the total book market and contemporary/literary fiction is but a small percentage of that 20%. But using the Michael Jordan pronouncement that, "You miss every shot you don't take," I ask everyone within range if they would like to have a great new novel.
I sold twenty books in five hours of selling--one every fifteen minutes. The first buyer is pictured herein. She started the ball rolling and when I left the store at 5:00 pm not one of Hillary's books had sold. I might run for President. If I can outsell her maybe I can out talk her too.
