I've been working out at the gym. Lifting iron, climbing the stairmaster, groaning and grunting to be in top shape for this upcoming book tour. My new novel, As All My Fathers Were debuts in Barnes & Noble in Anchorage on October 17th. On the 18th I fly to Lincoln, Nebraska and hit the road. Twenty book stores in sixteen towns--some with 200 souls residing there and some with 300,000.
From Barnes & Noble to Independant book stores to libraries to fire stations and public parks I'll be talking until my throat closes shut. So far my distributor has mailed out 40 cases of books and I intend to see that he pushes another 10 out of his warehouse before I quit setting up book signings in far off places.
Friends are coming to various signings in various towns and new friends, people I've only met on line, will drop by if I'm good. I've never done two signings a day in two different towns and I'm not sure how my mind and body will respond to the stimulation. Fortunately, I know when it ends and I get such a kick out of signing a book for a reader that I may not collapse until it's over. There is no betting pool that I am aware of and I have not been asked to update my will before leaving, both of which allow me to breath easier as I prepare.
Nebraska--let's see how you react to my Platte River novel. Yahoo
