Did your mink come from China?

To my women readers and to the men who clothe them in mink--did your mink come from China?
China has become the largest user and importer of mink skins. the US mink are superior to those grown in China and the new rich in that country have opted to buy American mink for their ladies.
That means some of the raised-in-China pelts are being exported. They are inferior in all respects.

I don't know the exact reason they are not up to quality. I point out in my novel, THE CUT OF PRIDE, that mink are strange critters. They don't care much about their fur or their pelt. And even getting wet several times can degrade the quality of the fur.

Animal rights people are against raising of animals for furs, or meat or almost anything else. But the animals have survived with and without man for centuries and if left alone they die soon anyway. Mink are feisty and fight more than hockey players.

Would you wear a mink coat?

  1. Most likely 'not' Sir...because I could not afford one and I don't live where I need a warm garment from their pelts...but I sure admire the one's I see on those that don't need one.! I looked at the price tag on a full length one in Las Vegas one time while walking by the Furrier store...at $15,000. in 1980, Carhartt is way more beautiful and has more style in the crowds I run with.!
